The Ghana Service has opened a three (3) day orientation meeting for 60 newly recruited District Directors of Health Service accross the country.
The orientation forms part of measures to ensure that the newly recruited District Directors receive information relevant to their scope of work in the area of Policy and legal framework as outlined in the objective of the orientation by Mr. Peter Obiri Yeboah Esq., Director, Human Resource Division.
The Director General of the Service, Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye in his address to the new District Directors congratulated them for going through the rigorous selection processes successfully.
He tasked them to have an oversight responsibility across all sectors of health service delivery in their respective geographical areas. He also entreated them to improve access to healthcare in the communities within their jurisdiction and use innovative ways to mobilise resources to support their activities.
He mentioned that their relationship with other stakeholders within the district is critical for their success as District Directors. He therefore charged them to reach out to them with proposals that will improve the health of the people in their communities.
” you need to find ways to attract and retain the core of health personnel needed in your districts because what national can do is to post them but you have a responsibility as a District Director to liaise with all the various stakeholders to ensure that Health staff who are posted to your district are retained” – Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye.
The Regional Director of Health Service for Greater Accra, Dr. Mrs. Charity Sarpong who chaired the program also asked the newly appointed directors to be dedicated and work hard.
The three (3) day training is expected to equip them in all areas of service delivery. Resource Persons have been carefully selected from various Divisions within the Service such as finance and audit, supply chain management, human resource, public health and policy issues to present.

The group has petitioned the Eastern Regional Security Council, Regional Health Directorate, Management of the Regional Hospital, management of the Koforidua Nursing Training College and the New Juaben South Municipal Assembly to within two weeks address short-term security measure, while long term plans be considered for their safety.
