Background

Dr. (Med) Akosua A. Gyimah Omari-Sasu serves as a distinguished leader at the Kumasi Metropolitan Health Directorate, where she is dedicated to ensuring the provision of quality health services that are accessible to all members of the community. Her mission is to deliver and efficiently manage comprehensive health care, with a strong emphasis on primary health care, in alignment with national policies. Dr. Omari-Sasu’s commitment to excellence in healthcare provision is evident in her focus on making essential health services available to the populace, fostering a healthier and more resilient community.

Professional Achievements

  • Received the Presidential Honor for distinguished service in March 2023.
  • Received the Ghana Health Service Excellence Award- Regional Level – Ashanti for leadership excellence for the year 2022.
  • Received the Ghana Health Service Excellence Awards – National level -2nd Runner up- Leadership Excellence 2023
  • Have worked successfully with both public and private health facilities in improving on the quality of services.
  • Serve as supervisor of Master of Public Health programme and membership in Public Health.
  • Authored publications in international journals and serve as a reviewer.
  • Was involved in operational research on all oral shorter regimen for the treatment of rifampicin/ multi-drug resistant tuberculosis in Ghana in 2021
  • Have worked with sub metro health workers to improve on access of health services to vulnerable groups in Kumasi in terms childhood immunization services and maternal and reproductive services.
