Overview
The Abuakwa South Municipality is one of the 33 administrative Districts in the Eastern Region of Ghana. Formerly known as East Akim Municipality, it was elevated to a Municipal status in 2008 by L.I 1878 and changed to Abuakwa South in 2018 by LI 2304.
The Municipality covers an area of approximately 725 square kilometres, with Kibi as its administrative capital, situated 56 kilometres from the regional capital Koforidua.
The Municipality shares borders with the Abuakwa North Municipality to the north, West Akim District to the Northwest, New Juabeng North to the east, Suhum Municipal to the south and Atiwa West to the west. It consists of seven (7) sub-Municipals: Kibi, Amanfrom, Apedwa, Asafo, Asiakwa, Bunso and Maase, it has about 180 communities and a projected population of Eighty- Nine Thousand Nine Hundred and Sixty-Three (89,963).
The Health facilities in the Municipality include the Municipal Health Directorate, the District Hospital, two(2) Private Clinics, five (5 ) Health Centers, fourteen (14) CHPS compounds and Thirty (30) Demarcated CHPS Zones
