Overview
Suaman District is one of the 9 Districts in the Western North Region, which was carved out of the then Aowin-Suaman district in 2013/2014 and has a land area of 2,717.8 sq. Km with its capital as Dadieso.
Suaman is bordered in the East (Akontombra District), North (Bodi and Juabeso Districts), South (Aowin District) and West (La-Cote D’Ivoire ).
Major towns in the District are Dadieso, Karlo, Akosekrom and Kwasuo.
It has a population of 38,268 and 108 communities. There are twelve (12) health facilities across the four sub-districts.
Major economic activities include Farming (Cocoa esp.), Trading, Formal sector, and major Galamsey activities in Suiano and Suiboi
ethnicity
The main indigenous ethnic group is the Ayne’s, but due to immigration, almost all the ethnic groups in Ghana are represented in this cocoa-producing district.
religion
The main religious groups in the district are Christians, Moslems and Traditionalists.
education
The district has few educational facilities like other districts in the region. There is one Senior High School.
water sources
There are fewer pipe borne water in the district. The people depend mainly on Rivers, Streams, Ponds, Wells and boreholes for water supply.
There are two main big rivers, which run through the district; the Bia and Sui rivers. These big rivers coupled with the thick forest favors the growth and multiplication of the Simulium flies as such the district is prone to Onchocerciasis, Schistosomiasis and other water borne and water related diseases.
transport and communication
Communication in the district is very poor. The road network is in a deplorable state. There is only 20kilometres tarred road in the district. During the rainy seasons, the roads become unmotorable to most vehicles except four-wheel-drive ones. There are four functioning communication networks (MTN, Vodafone GH, Airtel GH and Tigo) in the district.

For the purposes of health programme planning and implementation at the local level, the district is divided into 4 sub-districts namely, Akosekrom, Kwasuo, Dadieso and Karlo
health facilities
The district has fourteen (14) functioning health Facilities providing curative, preventive, promotive and maternity services to the people in the district. These facilities provide 24-hour service. The remaining are Mission and Private Clinics providing services.
The Ministry of Health facilities are:

In addition to the government Health Institution mentioned above, there are Ten (10) other government CHPS compounds providing health services in the district.

These CHPS compounds are manned by Community Health Officers (CHOs) who are either a community Health Nurse, Midwife or Enrolled Nurse. They are trained to provide basic health services to their communities.
The DHMT collaborate with the under listed mission clinics and private facilities in the district.
The mission clinic is under the management of its mission but the DHMT monitors and supervises its performance.
