The Ayawaso East Municipal Health Directorate, previously part of the Ayawaso Sub-Metro, serves Nima East, Nima West, and Kanda, operating 17 Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) zones. The area is a multicultural community historically owned by the Odukwao family of Osu.

The Ayawaso East Municipal is located within the Accra Metropolitan area, bordered by Ayawaso North, Korle-Klottey, La Dade Kotopon, and Ayawaso West. It has a population of 58,174, with significant demographics including women of fertile age and various age groups of children.

Sharing geological features with Accra Metropolitan, Ayawaso East experiences a dry equatorial climate with two rainy seasons and high relative humidity. The area features diverse vegetation, including shrub land, grassland, and coastal zones.

The municipality’s economy revolves around skilled artisans and traders, with a prominent market day on Wednesdays at the Nima market. The financial sector includes various banks and retail outlets.

Educational Facilities

Ayawaso East hosts several educational institutions, including TINASCO Senior High School and the Nursing and Midwifery Training College. Many residents pursue higher education at nearby institutions.

The community is predominantly Muslim, with about 40 mosques, and a noticeable Christian presence. Religious groups coexist peacefully, fostering respect and tolerance.
