Ayawaso North Health Directorate District Profile
Ayawaso North is one of the twenty-nine municipalities or district Assemblies in the Greater Accra region. It was administratively declared independent in 2018. Prior to its independence, it was a sub-district of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA). Ayawaso North municipality is bounded on the north and East by Ayawaso central (Pig farm and Accra Newtown), on the west by Ayawaso West (Dzorwulu) and on the south by Ayawaso East (Nima). The total area of the municipality is 2.2sq.Km. The major occupation of the people in the municipality is trading. Other economic activities are animal farming, dress making, white colour jobs, among others. The major ethnic groups in the area include Hausa, Ga-Adangbe, Akan. The natives are mainly Muslims with few Christians and traditional believers.
Accessibility
Ayawaso North municipality is located at the center of the city of Accra, 10 minutes’ drive from the Kotoka International Airport. All basic amenities including water and electricity are available within the district.

According to the 2021 population and housing census, the municipality has a population of 66,076.
It is therefore divided into three (3) sub-municipalities

District Health System
The Municipal Health Management Team is responsible for health service delivery in the Municipality. The Municipality is divided into three sub-districts for the organization of primary health care services namely, Maamobi West, Maamobi East and Kwaosturu. A sub-municipal health management Team comprises institutional heads, and sub district heads which is mainly responsible for the delivery of health services to defined communities.
Health Facilities
Ayawaso North Municipality has one District Hospital (Maamobi General Hospital) which provides 24-hour services, four (4) private clinics, 16 functional CHPS zones and one CHPS compound. There are Pharmacies and Chemical seller Shops widely distributed in the municipality.
