Ada East District profile

The Ada East district is one of the twenty-nine districts/municipal/metropolitan Health directorates in the Greater Accra Region and one of the purely rural districts in the Region. The entire district is situated in the Accra Plains and the land is relatively flat. It has a common boundary with Ada West District on the west, with North Tongu on the north and South Tongu on the East and by the Atlantic Ocean to the south. The district has a surface area of approximately 332km2.

The district has not yet been caught up by the rapid urbanization of the peripheral areas surrounding the city of Accra though it has a very good transport system and roads to Accra.

The district has a coastal Savana kind of vegetation. There is an occasional preponderance of thick shrub, especially the marshy areas. Coconut trees can be found along the coastal stretches.

The district is divided into three administrative sub-districts as follows:

  • Ada-Foah sub-district
  • Kasseh sub-district
  • Pediatorkope sub-district

Ada-Foah is the district capital, which is the seat of political administration. The District Health Administration is situated in Ada-Foah. Kasseh has the major central market, and it is also the gateway to the district. Kasseh is on the West African International first-class road linking Accra the National Capital of Ghana and Lome, the National Capital of Togo. Big-Ada is the seat of the paramount stool. The district has one electoral constituency – the Ada-Kasseh constituency. The district has a total population of 79654
