ASENE MANSO AKROSO DISTRICT

The Asene Manso Akroso District (AMAD) was carved out of the Birim Central Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region on the 14th day of November 2017 by Legislative Instrument (LI) 2341 and was inaugurated on the 15th day of March 2018. The district covers an estimated area of 471.82km2. The district is bounded to the north by Birim Central Municipal, to the west by Denkyembour District and West Akim Municipal, to the south by Agona East District and Upper West Akim as well as to the East by Birim South District and Agona East. Located within these Coordinates 554.64N – 0536.36W.

The AMAD has three (3) zonal councils namely Asene, Akroso and Manso, one parliamentary constituency seat and thirty-two (32) Assembly Members consisting of twenty-two Elected Members and ten (10) Government Appointees. The district capital is Akyem Manso. There are about 150 communities including hamlets and 3 Zonal Councils namely, Asene, Manso and Akroso in the district. It has a population of 80,187. The people are predominately farmers.Asene Manso Akroso district is made up of Akan 85.8%, Ewe 5.2%, Ga Dangbe 3.6% and others.

There are 8 health Administrative Sub-districts made up of 3 Health Centers, 20 CHPS compounds with 27 demarcated CHPS Zones. The district has one private hospital but no district hospital. The Asene Health Center prides itself as being the Best Health Center in the Eastern region. The hardworking staff at the district ensures that the populace have access to quality but affordable health care in a friendly and serene environment. In 2023, Mr. William Yeboah, a Registered Commuity Health Nurse won a National Presidential Grand Medal award for Risk communication.

The district is quite undulating and hilly and lies within a semi-deciduous forest zone. It is drained by the Birim River, which provides means for potable water, irrigation, mining as well as transport. It has diverse tapestry of culture, vibrant communities and breathtaking natural landscapes to explore. It may interest you to know, the district is home to the Biggest Tree in West Africa located at Aprokumase an Ecotourism site that welcomes tourist from all over the world who seek to immerse themselves in local traditions, delicious cuisines or enjoy serene natural beauty.
