ASUNAFO NORTTH MUNICIPAL PROFILE
District, West and South-West by Asunafo South District Ethnic groups: The ethnic groups in the Municipal are made up mainly of Akans, Kusasis, Moshies, Bimobas, Dagabas, Ewes and other people of northern extraction and other foreigners.
Religion
The people are largely Christians, Moslems and traditional worshipers.
General Administration
Asunafo North Municipal Assembly (ASNMA), headed by The Asunafo North Municipal, with Goaso as its capital, is one of the Six (6) administrative districts of the Ahafo Region. Other Districts such as Asunafo South and the Asutifi Districts were carved out of the district. The district was upgraded to a Municipal status in 2004 in then Brong Ahafo Region.
Boundaries
Asunafo North Municipal is located at the Southern part of Ahafo Region. It is bounded on the East and North-East by Asutifi districts, North and North-West by Dormaa a Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), is the administrative authority of the Municipality. For health delivery, its sub divided into six sub-districts: Asumura, Akrodie, Ayomso, Goaso, Mim and Kasapin.
Health Administration
The Municipal Health Directorate (MHD), which is an administrative arm of the ASNMA, is responsible for health administration. The MHD is situated at Goaso and is responsible for health service delivery in the municipality.
Topography and Climate
The vegetation is composed mainly of semi-deciduous forest. There are two main seasons; rainy and dry seasons. The district experiences a double maxima rainfall pattern with annual rainfall ranging between 125mm and 175 mm. The rainy seasons peak between April and July followed by the minor seasons in September and October.
Economy
Farming is the major socio-economic activity in the area with cocoa being the leading cash crop. Food crops produced include cassava, plantain and coco-yams. The district is also noted for the production of timber due to the availability of vast natural forest. The inhabitants also engage in animal husbandry. There are quite a number of public and civil servants employed in various institutions in the district
Social Amenities
The road network within the municipality is generally poor. There are a few tarred roads whilst the rest are mainly feeder roads, some of which are un-motorable especially during the rainy seasons. Some of the roads within the municipality are under construction. The supply of potable water in the district is mainly by boreholes and deep wells. Mim, Goaso and Ayomso are served with treated pipe-borne water and currently there is a reservoir on water system under construction to support the water supply in Goaso Township. Most of the major towns are hooked to the national electricity grid, but a number of communities are yet to be connected.
Traditional Authorities
Traditional authorities have become part of the local governance structure. Traditional authorities are the bodies around which communities are organized for health delivery activities, including immunization, health education, etc. There are a number of paramount chiefs in the district.
Population
The population of the district for 2024 was estimated to be 158853 (projected from the 2021 Pop & Housing Census). The annual growth rate is 2.5%. The table below gives the projected district population by sub-districts for 2024.
Health facilities
There is one government hospital, the Goaso Municipal Hospital, providing essential medical services to the community. In addition to this, the Ahmadiyya Hospital stands as a private hospital. There are five government health centres located in Mim, Ampenkro, Ayomso, Asumura, and Akrodie. Additionally, the Pentecost Health Centre operates as a private health centre.
There are eleven government CHPS facilities distributed in Asukese, Bediako, Wam, Bitre, Dominase, Gyasikrom, Kwakuduah, Dottom, Pomaakrom, Awewoho Manhyia, Tweneboah, and Mensahkrom, providing essential healthcare at the community level.
Private clinics include Dechem Agyei Mensah Memorial Maternity Home, Ahafoman Clinic, Asuadei Shabash Clinic, Nyamebekyere Cross Care Clinic, Life Savers Clinic, and Our Lady of Perpetual Clinic.
