Overview
The Bia District was carved out of the former Juaboso–Bia District in 2004 by Legislative Instrument (LI) 1762 and officially inaugurated in August 2004. The district’s administrative office is located at Essam-Debiso. It lies between Latitude 6°6’N and 7°0’N and Longitude 2°40’W and 3°15’W. Bia District shares boundaries with the Bia East District to the north and east, the Republic of La Côte d’Ivoire to the west, and Juaboso District to the south

Geography and Infrastructure
The district’s poor road network poses a significant challenge to both marketing and service delivery. Despite this, residents have access to television signals from the GTV network and mobile services provided by private operators such as MTN, Airtel Tigo, and Telcel.
Climate
Bia District experiences two main seasons: the wet season, which occurs between April and October, and the dry season, which lasts from November to March.
Natural Resources
The district is home to two forest reserves: Bia North Forest Reserve, a protected area, and Bia South Forest Reserve, a productive reserve where timber harvesting takes place.
Population and Healthcare
The district consists of about 108 communities spread across seven sub-districts. In terms of healthcare facilities, Bia District has one hospital with three doctors, 28 CHPS compounds, three health centres, five clinics, and six maternity homes serving the population.
