Overview
The Effia Kwesimintsim Municipality is one of the 14 MMDAs in the Western Region. The Effia Kwesimintsim Municipality was carved out of the Sekondi -Takoradi Metropolis as one of the 38 newly created and upgraded District Assemblies in 2018. Created with Legislative Instrument (L.I) 2349, the Effia Kwesimintsim Municipality has its capital as Kwesimintsim. It was inaugurated on March 15, 2018 alongside other 37 newly created districts. Size and Boundaries
The Municipality shares Borders with Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis at its Southern and Eastern borders, Mpohor district to the north and Ahanta West to the West. It has a land size of 54.44 Sq Km (0.25% of Western Region land size).
For the purpose of health service delivery, the Municipality has been divided into five sub-municipalities namely: Kwesimintsim, Effia, Apremdo, Whindo and Anaji Sub-Municipalities.
Demography
The 2023 population of Effia Kwesimintsim Municipality projected from Ghana 2021 Population and Housing Census was estimated to be 181,436 which is made up of 94,347 (52%) females and 87,089 (48%) males. The Municipality is cosmopolitan and inhabited by a number of ethnic groups however the Fantes are the predominant ethnic group followed by Ahantas.
Health Facilities
The Municipality has a total of thirty seven (37) functional facilities made up of 19 private facilities (3 hospitals and 16 clinics); sixteen (16) government facilities made up of the Municipal Hospital, three (3) health centres (one serving as the hub or model health centre for NoP), twelve (12) functional CHPS zones; then one CHAG hospital and one Quasi Government hospital.
Staff Strength
The Municipality has a staff strength of 816 comprising of 311 MHD staff (Health Centres/CHPS and MHD) and 505 Municipal hospital staff. These include 48 IGF staff.

The Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal Health Directorate exists to contribute to the development of a health system that promotes health and vitality through access to quality health service for all people living in the Municipality.
